About the role
Developing our talented work force is at the heart of what we do and so we're looking for a Paralegal who is looking to develop their legal career working closely with our lawyers in the Funds team to support on a wide variety of matters and clients.
We're looking for a Paralegal to provide technically strong and accurate support to the fee earner team, whilst developing and learning in a legal service line environment.
Responsibilities
- Support fee earners with basic legal work, e.g. research, document production, precedent development, for review by relevant fee earners
- Proof read draft documents, memos and 'know how' documents
- Preparing draft document lists, steps plans and closing bibles as requested
- Efficiently ensure all documents and correspondence are saved in the relevant area so a current matter can be managed and accessed easily
- Assist with non-chargeable research and drafting tasks for example, internal memos and client briefings and ad-hoc legal publications
- Assist with management of matters ensuring key government and regulatory filings are completed as instructed by fee earners
- Ensure time sheets are up to date at all times
- Ensure billing is accurate and timely
- Support fee earner to keep on top of billing to ensure timeliness of debt collection
- Investigate billing and non-payment queries
- Support the delivery of excellent client service at all times
- Develop an understanding of key clients and their significance
- Ability to share your capacity and prioritise workload when working for more than one fee earner
- Develop good working relationships across the firm
- Receive incoming telephone calls, taking and relaying accurate messages where necessary. Where appropriate, arrange and set up conference and outgoing calls for the team
- Attend on conference calls and meetings taking accurate notes and preparing summaries of key points and actions
- Maintain diaries and task lists as necessary, and ensure that individuals are prepared and available for meetings at the appointed time and appropriate room
Skills
- Relevant Legal academic qualification(s) as appropriate
- High standard of attention to detail
- Good drafting and written communication skills
- An inquiring mind keeping up to date with new legislation and topics of interest in the local market
- Have or be willing to develop an understanding of the Cayman Islands legal and regulatory framework as it relates to investment funds
- Become familiar with using online legal database
- Begin to develop commercial awareness
- Demonstrate effective time management skills to manage workload appropriately
- Develop an understanding of working to a budget and be aware of budget constraints whilst working
- Build effective relationships internally and externally
- Communicate effectively and appropriately
- Develop negotiation skills in a client context
- Ability to use own initiatives
- Ability to take instructions and the confidence to challenge and check understanding
- Ability to meet deadlines
The ideal candidate will be willing to work in the London office at from Tuesday to Thursday.
